Bristol Poker League March 2010 Monthly Final Result
69 People started one of the smoothest finals ever, with 62 People deciding to pay the optional £2 into the bounty hunter side pot this time. I'm not sure this idea is worth the extra hassle every month, as a lot of people came up and cashed one chip to get their own £2 back. I think we will review this in the next couple of weeks to see if it is something that should be used sparingly instead of every month.
The reigning Luckwell Champion, "Kasper" was one of the two people knocked out first by Don who quickly won £4 to be in profit.
The final table was reached in dramatic style. With 10 people left, table 2 got in a massive hand between Kerri Malcolm and Paul "Riverman" Dash. With Paul pushing all in for 80,000 chips on the turn when the board was K-J-4-x, Kerri went into the tank. With 78000 in front of her and with chips already in the middle, the pot was worth a huge 184,000 chips in total.
Whilst this hand was playing out, Lisa Skelly was knocked out on the other table, so I already knew that final table was reached, but kept it quiet until the hand on the other table was over in case it affected Kerri's decision.
In the end Kerri called and showed pocket 4's for bottom set. Paul showed top 2 pair with King-Jack and didn't improve. Final table was reached with Paul having 2,000 left and unfortunately he drew seat 2 to be all in straight away.
- 9th - Riverman
Unsurprisingly, Paul went out in 9th for £20
- 8th - Plumbob
Plumbob went out in 8th when his pocket 7's lost the race with Kerri's Ace-King. He picked up £25
- 7th - Vin Diesel
Vin went out in 7th with A-Q against Jon Peters T-8. He collected £40.00.
- 6th - Bootsie
Lyndsay was out in 6th. Pushing all in with Ace-Jack she found a caller in Kerri who turned over 9-T. A 9 on the flop meant it was all over for one of the 3 ladies on the final table. She collected £40.00.
- 5th - Tiff
Tiff was making her first appearance at the top table in a final. Another race went wrong when her pocket 9's lost to Phils Ace-Queen. King Jack on the flop and Ten on the turn meant it was all over, and the 9 on the river just rubbed salt in the wound. She finished 5th for £50.00.
- 4th - Kerri
Kerri couldn't maintain her form once the last 4 were reached. She did rack up 7 kills and eventually went out in 4th she picked up £60.00
With our last remaining female player now gone, the top 3 were Phil, JK and Jon Peters. It was almost all over in one hand when JK raised, Jon called, Phil pushed all in over the top, JK called and with Jon having them both covered it meant if he called and won it would be game over.... However, knowing that a fold would almost certainly mean being heads up, Jon folded and JK won the hand with straight and crippled Phil.
- 3rd - Phil
Phil shortly after went out in 3rd for £75.00.
This left our final 2. John Kayes and Jon Peters
The final 2:
Heads up ended with an amazing hand. Both players saw the flop of K-K-3 and checked. A small bet on the turn from Jon was called by JK. The river saw all the action. JK moved all in and was instantly called by Jon. John Kayes turned over K-3 for a flopped full house! Jon groaned and turned over pocket 3's for another flopped full house! Amazing.
- 2nd - Jon
- CHAMPION - "Handsome" John Kayes
John becomes only the second player to win the Monthly Final 3 times so many congratulations are in order.
The next final is in Snooker City on Bank Holiday Monday, May 31st. We hope to see a lot of you there!
