Bristol Poker League November 09 Monthly Final Result
72 players started the latest monthly final on a cold December afternoon in The Salutation.
The first player out was Duncan. He won a "Tournament Donkey" card guard for his efforts...
The final table of 9 was reached when Damian AKA "The Pump" went out in 10th. A quick change of tables and we settled down to the race for the prizes. Some familiar faces were joined by some debutants this month, making for an interesting battle.
- 9th - Mark
- 8th - Ann Humps
- 7th - Julie
- 6th - Steve AKA "From Hero to Zero"
- 5th - Katie
- 4th - Jake
- 3rd - Lesley
- 2nd - Leroy aka "Gas"
Last months Champion was aiming to be the first player to do back to back wins in the final, but this time Mark was first out on the final table and finished in 9th place. Pushing all in, only to find Katie on his immediate left sat waiting with Pocket Aces! Mark took home £35.
Ann Humps was next out. Arriving at the final table with second shortest stack Ann took home £45
Julie was out in 7th place and collected 55
Employing an aggressive style throughout the Day, Steve cruised through to the final table, and if the luck had been even slightly in his favour he would have probably finished a lot higher than 6th.
Two crucial hands were when he raised Lesley with Ace Queen, Les went all in with Ace Jack and the board ran out Ace-King-King-King-x for a split pot! The second was even crueller. Raising again and this time finding Leroy calling all in from a short stacked Big Blind, Steve turned over pocket 7's Leroy turned over King-4, and the board ran out Queen-Queen-8-8-2 to make Steves pocket 7's useless and saw Leroy double up!
Shortly after those two shockers, Steve left with 65 in his pocket and a 6th place finish.
Last months runner up finished a very creditable 5th this time. After knocking Mark out with her pocket Aces early on the final table, Katie then ran card dead and eventually took home 80.00 for 5th place
Arriving at the final table with the chip lead of 94,000 Jake had been using a very aggressive raising style of play to bully a lot of players off a lot of pots. Eventually that tactic failed when he raised all in, and found himself a caller in Avi in the Big Blind. Avi's Pocket queens easily dominated Jakes hand and Jake took home 4th place and 100.00
Les arrived at the final table with the shortest stack of 16,000 and did extremely well to finish an eventual 3rd for 120.00
Snooker City regular "Gas" was playing in his first final. Leroy and eventual winner Avi had a monumental heads up battle. At one point Avi had a commanding chip lead but Gas fought back to then dominate Avi. Avi then fought back to just behind in stack size then the crucial hand came along....
An unremarkable flop saw both players with all their chips in the middle. Leroy turned over 2 diamonds for a flush draw. Avi turned over for a slow played pair of Pocket ACES!
Everyone held their breath whilst the last two cards were turned over, but no more Diamonds came along so Leroy was left with less than a big blind to play with.
Next hand saw the end of the game. Leroy had 8 high...
Avi's Jack high wins the day!
Avi wins 300.00 and the trophy for first place. Congratulations!
As ever I would like to thank everyone for turning up and playing the game in a fantastic spirit. The game eventually finished at 8.40 and I am pretty sure is amongst the longest finals ever. Over 7 and a half hours of fantastic poker!
