Champion of Champions 3 result
32 of the elite played in last weekends Champion of Champions game. First one to go was Lisa "BOW" Skelly. After suffering a cruel blow when her mighty 7-4 off lost a fair chunk of chips, she survived a few hands more, but in the end was the first player out. Partner Jaws was soon to follow in 30th, only lasting slightly longer than Ping Pong, who couldnt find the same form that had taken him to the league title. He went out in 31st place.
Caddz and Riverman soon followed, then Mr Brains, the only member of the fabled "Academy" to make it to the Champions game, followed. I saw Dave make two very good lay downs, before exiting. Just not to be this time.
Lewis, Huw, Disco and Mr B then left, before my missus, Smurf/Bootsie/Lynz departed in 22nd.
Lyndsay was Birds first victim in the game, and by this time Will had built up an early lead in the headhunter competition, having taken 3 people out already, closely followed by Sally with 2. Knighty then had a sudden spurt taking Mike R out in 21st and Little Al out in 19th, sandwiched by Hutch taking out Don in 20th, to go to 2 kills as well.
Black Widow was out in 18th, and Magic was 17th.
At this point Sally went on a killing spree and knocked out No Jack in 16th, Koi in 15th and Knighty in 14th to shoot to the top of the Hitman board with 5 kills. Bud then knocked out Handsome John in 13th, Grim Reaper took out Steve in 12th and Bud got his second kill in quick succession, taking out Will in 11th.
Down to ten players and we saw the biggest hand of the game so far. 5 players at the table, and Captain Jack limped from the button. Peter in the small blind raises to 4 times the blind. Grim in the big blind then goes into the tank for a good couple of minutes, before deciding he can't fold and goes all in. Captain Jack didn't have a large stack left so called, and Peter instantly calls having slightly less chips than Grim, and flips pocket Aces! Captain Jack has Pocket Jacks and Grim is looking in terrible shape holding Ace-Queen.
Put those cards in a poker calculator and Pete is 76% favourite to win, Captain Jack has a 18% chance and Grim a lowly 6% chance of scooping the pot.
However, Poker is a game of luck as well as skill, and a flop of QUEEN-TEN-QUEEN completely reverses the odds, and makes Grim an overwhelming favourite to win the hand. A Jack actually hits on the river, and gives Captain Jack the main pot, but there were loads more chips in the side pot, which Grim took, sending Peter to the rail.
The Pump then got taken out in 9th to give us our final table.
First out was Bud in 8th, then Captain Jack in 7th. Dale was 6th, then Sally was 5th having ended with 5 kills.
Sally won a bottle of champagne for taking the most players out.
Pacman and Hutch finised in 4th and 3rd respectively to leave us with the final two players, Grim Reaper defending his title all the way to the end, and Bird.
Bird had previously been as low as having one 1000 chip left, in the big blind, and blinds of 1 and 2 thousand so had made an amazing recovery to reach heads up!
The chips went back and forwards for a while before Grim went all in, and Bird called. They both turned over an Ace with a low kicker. Grim with an 8 and Bird with a 5. I was getting ready to split the pot, but the flop was 2-King-4 to give Bird a straight draw. The 3 duly arrived on the turn and a harmless Queen on the river gave Bird the title!
Bird took home a beautiful glass decanter and a bottle of champagne for winning, and secures her place in the Champions games for ever! Congratulations!
