Monthly Final result

76 runners sat down for the final in the George and Dragon on Sunday. We saw an early bust out when Picasso aka Mike Rogers went all in with 5-6 on a 7-5-5-x board only to find himself called by Handsome John Kayes holding pocket 7s. The case 5 never arrived on the river so Mike had to wind his way through the crowd to the exit.

When we reached the final table of 9 there was a very large difference in the stack sizes. On one hand there was Wyvern with a massive 177,000 in front of him, and on the other Caddz had made it with only 3000.

Even though Caddz did manage one treble up, it wasnt to be and he left in 9th place in the end.

The final 8 then played for the larger amounts, and first one out was Will who had a pretty good position holding K-Q on a Q-9-9 board against Wyverns King-Jack. Unfortunately a Ten appeared to give Wyvern the straight and knock Will out

  • BPL2216 - 8th - Will - £20
  • BPL1943 - 7th - Ricky - £30
  • BPL2388 - 6th - Karen - £40
  • Ricky and Karen were taken out in the same hand By Mr Brains. Ricky had pocket 6's, Karen had Pocket Jacks and Mr Brains A-Q. A 6 on the flop again saw a player take a massive lead only for someone to catch up then overtake by hitting cards. This time it was Mr Brains who ended up hitting a flush on the river to take a firm grip on the whole game.

  • BPL1647 - Eden - £50
  • Eden went out in 5th place in another massive hand. Although he was fairly short stacked, pre flop, after the flop a huge pot developed when Eden went all in, and Olveston Dave pushed all in over the top with an 8-6-2 flop containing two diamonds. Mr Brains immediately leapt from the table and went into the tank saying he had two overcards and a flush draw, and if he called he knew he was putting all his chips on the line as Dave had him very slightly covered....
Eventually he called showing J-T of diamonds. Eden turned over Q-8 for top pair, but Olveston Dave had that beat with 6-2 for two pairs. A 9 on the turn and a Queen on the river once again saw Mr Brains come from behind, this time rivering a straight to knock Eden out, and felt Dave down to less than the size of the big blind.

  • BPL1328 - Olveston Dave - £60
  • Dave didnt last much longer and cruelly went out in 4th.

  • BPL3397 - Ann Humps - £75
  • Ann Humps finished in third. She found herself the short stack of 3 against Mr Brains and Wyvern, and took home £75 for her efforts

This left our final two, and after our last chip up, Wyvern had 190,000 in chips and Mr Brains had 285,000. Heads up only took about 8 hands as we hit an action flop which saw 8-9-x and Mr Brains push all in with Ace-King, only to see Wyvern announce call with Ten-Jack for both live cards and an up and down straight draw.

However, the turn and river were both blanks for Wyvern, and that was enough for Mr Brains to become only the 5th person to win the monthly final twice.

  • BPL1732 - Wyvern - £100
  • BPL2045 - Mr Brains - £300
