Bristol Poker League January 2010 Monthly Final Result

An amazing final. 86 people turned up to play and after sorting out just who was in and who wasn't, we were off. Only 10 minutes late.

After much singing of Wurzel songs and cashing in of yellow bounty chips we reached our final lucky 9...

  • 9th - Cool Hand 299
  • Out when Pocket Jacks couldn't beat Neils Ace-King in a race.

  • 8th - Zooma
  • 7th - Mike R
  • Mike and Dave were both knocked out in the same hand by Neil suddenly racking up the bounty chips!

  • 6th - Ann Humps
  • Ann managed a fantastic 6th place on her birthday and I think enjoyed the rather noisy rendition of "Happy Birthday to You" sung by the whole of the final table and the observers...

  • 5th - Neil
  • Neil couldn't keep up the killing spree on the final table and went out 5th in his first ever BPL final.

  • 4th - Silver Fox
  • Alan managed to get to 4th place without knocking anyone out! So only collected the base prize for 4th spot.

  • 3rd - Azzi
  • The battle to reach heads up was an amazing rollercoaster ride, with all 3 players being put under pressure to survive at one point. No more so than when Matt "Azzi" Potts went all in from the small blind with 9-3 and found a caller in Ping Pong in the Big Blind with Ace-7. A flop of 9-9-3(!) almost saw Ping Pong eliminated but a quick coouple of double ups saw him double back up and Matt eventually bow out in a more than creditable 3rd.

This left our final 2. Ping Pong apparently making his first final table appearance (?) and Damian R in his first ever final!

    Alan and Damian heads up:

Another epic battle then started for the final spot. Chips were only going one way with Ping Pong steamrollering his way to victory until a sick bad beat came along. Dominating Damian's Q-3 with his own Ace-Queen, the 3 on the flop meant the 80% shot to win was gone and left Damian completely chipped up.

  • 2nd - Alan "Ping Pong Pro" Smith
  • The final hand was incredible. As Alan was all in blind, I Dealt one card face up and one face down to each player and then dealt a flop of 8-Ace-6-8-King. With Damians Face up card being a King and Ping Pongs a Ten, things looked bleak for Ping.... Until he turned over his face down card to reveal the third 8! Amazing and a double up surely? Not quite. With the words "you need the case 8" only just out of my mouth Damian turned over his face down card to, incredibly, turn over the final 8 to win with a full house.

  • CHAMPION - Damian Rumble
  • In his first ever final appearance, Damian took home over £140 and the trophy for first place. Congratulations!

I am trying to generate feeback from this game to see if the bounty idea was a success or not. It seemed to be, as I have had more than one person asking if it is going to be like that every final! I am also aware that with 400 pounds taken out of the prize pool for the bounties that whilst it meant a lot of people took home small amounts of money it diluted the prize pool of the final table quite dramatically, especially in Alans case as he only took home 35 quid even though he finished 4th, as he didn't knock anyone out before finishing higher than 76 other players!

I am asking for peoples opinions when I am at games, but if you would like to either message me on facebook or send me an I would appreciate any constructive thoughts.
